Learn the indirect method of creating beautiful mosaics with vitreous glass. Make a 6 inch by 8 inch house number or a set of 4 coasters. SUMMER ADULT POTTERY with Kristen VonHohen

Students will learn the basics of wedging, centering, raising and shaping as well as slab-rolling and hand-building. Students will receive individual instruction based on their skill level. This class is limited to 10 students. Cost includes: 25lb bag of white clay, 1 bisque firing and 1 glaze firing, and all glazes. SUMMER SESSION  begins June 19. SUMMER INTRODUCTION TO ENCAUSTICS with Jeff Margraf

One day workshop! Learn basic techniques of encaustic painting. Students will learn to “paint with wax” using a variety of encaustic techniques. Tools, techniques and materials will be explored with an emphasis on safety. PLEASE NOTE: there is a $35 materials fee, payable to the instructor at the time of the first class. INTRODUCTION TO FUSED GLASS JEWELRY with Jeff Margraf

Students will learn the basics of making fused glass jewelry. We will make three dichroic glass pendants using three different fusing processes.This is a great class for jewelry makers who want to enhance their design with one-of-a-kind pendants. It is also a great introduction to the fun world of fused glass. There is a $40 fee for supplies and firing, payable to the instructor. SUMMER SESSION Saturday, July 21 from 12-3pm. $55 + supply fee (member), $60 + supply fee (non-member).

Each open studio class is limited to four students. You will be able to choose your project for each class, and the instructor will help you design and create your piece. Every project will have a supply fee separate from the class tuition. This fee covers the cost of glass and firing of your completed piece. Click here to see a price chart. On average, finished fused pieces will be available for pickup 2 weeks after class. However during busy or peak times, the turnaround may be longer.

PLEASE NOTE: Introduction to Glass Fusing, or equivalent glass cutting experience, is a prerequisite for this class.  SUMMER SESSION This class is offered every Saturday, beginning June 30. ALTERED T-SHIRTS (16+) with Barbara Zuazua

Make typical men’s style T-shirts fitted just for you.  Very easy, fast and cool! Bring men’s style t-shirts and one of your own favorite fitted t-shirt.  Length is not important only the torso fit. YO-YO FLAG (ages 16+) with Michele Kulp

During this two-session workshop, you will learn how to make a basic yo-yo pattern and how to stitch your finished pieces together to create an American Flag Wall hanging. You’ll learn how to use graph paper to pattern/design the flag as well as pattern/design a square to be used for a quilt or table runner. You will receive a supply list once you register.  SUMMER SESSION August 8 and 15. Class runs from 6:30-8:00pm each night. $45 (member), $50 (non-member).

SCRATCHBOARD (ages 16+) with Michele Kulp

During this two-session workshop, you will learn the techniques of creating art with scratchboard. This is the perfect class for the beginner--no previous drawing experience necessary! Your first scratchboard design will be your favorite animal. You will receive a supply list when you register. SUMMER SESSION July 18 and 25. In this great beginner sewing class, you will learn how to make a simple summer skirt. No sewing experience required. If you own your own machine, you are encouraged to bring it with to class. There are a limited number of machines available for use at the school. You will receive a materials list once you register. FOUND OBJECT AND RECYCLED JEWELRY with Julie Tonnessen

In this class, you will learn several fun and highly useful techniques for creating unique jewelry from found objects like old keys, vintage or broken jewelry, stones and more. We will also explore upcycling, creating jewelry from recyclable and saved-from-the-trash items. The class fee includes most supplies. Students should bring pieces to class they would like reimagine and any beads they would like to incorporate into their finished jewelry. Some jewelry making experience is helpful but not required.  SUMMER SESSION  August 4 from 10am-2:30pm (with a lunch break). $70 (members), $80 (non-members).

A model (clothed and nude) will be used to incorporate figure drawing techniques and skills for beginning, intermediate, or advanced drawing students. A materials list will be sent to beginning students prior to the first session; intermediate and advanced students are welcome to use their choice of materials. Students under 18 will be required to have parent signed waiver to attend this class. Minimum 4 students. CLAY: HAND-BUILDING TECHNIQUES TWO DAY WORKSHOP (ages 16+) with Danielle D’Aries

This two-day workshop will focus on making garden decorations using hand-building techniques. Finished works will remain unglazed for an earthy, natural appearance. Minimum 4 students. SUMMER SESSION Choose June 19 and 21 from 3-5pm, OR July 10 and 17 from 3-5pm. $95 (member), $105 (non-member).

JEWELRY/METALSMITHING (ages 16+) with Danielle D’Aries

This four-hour workshop will focus on metalsmithing techniques using copper and brass to create jewelry pieces. Skills such as sawing, piercing, filing, and finishing will be introduced to make pins, earrings, pendants. There is a $40 materials fee payable to the instructor. POTTSTOWN PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT (ages 16+) with Danielle D’Aries

Students in this course will focus on composition techniques and color, incorporating the history and culture of Pottstown and its buildings and people to photograph Pottstown. Students will help create a photo-book that shows the beautiful architecture, people, and events that happen in and around Pottstown. Students will be encouraged to research and write about the photographs they take to be included in the photo-book. The final product will be a collaborative photo album that visually describes the Pottstown community. A separate product fee will apply for each participant to receive a copy of the book. Students should have flexible access to a digital camera and a computer. Camera mechanics will not be taught during this project course. Students under 18 must have a signed permission slip from a parent. Minimum 5 students. SUMMER SESSION Class runs June 19, June 26, July 10, July 17, July 24, July 26, July 31 and August 2, from 12:30-2:30pm each day. $125 (member), $135 (non-member).

FLASH MEMOIR AND ESSAYS FOR ADULTS with Sue Repko

In this workshop, writers will share short pieces (no more than 3 double-spaced pages) of nonfiction for discussion. Word limits force us to see how every word really does count, and the very short form provides practice in establishing setting and character, scene-building, creating mood and tension, and exploring a theme. Along the way we’ll talk about the submission process and getting our stories out into the world. We will also read and discuss some short nonfiction provided by the instructor. Please bring some of your work for the first class. Writers at all levels are welcome!  

Sue Repko is a writer and urban planner, who founded the Positively!Pottstown blog. Her work has appeared in many online and print journals. She recently received her MFA in creative nonfiction from Bennington College.

INTRODUCTION TO STAINED GLASS with Carl Altman

Try your hand at stained glass with no big investment in tools! In this introductory course, you will learn how to create with stained glass. The instructor will cover safety, tools and techniques and guide you through the process from choosing your design to polishing your finished project.
